“Saya minta baginda dukung kerajaan (Malaysia) kerana saya rasa kerajaannya ada rekod membantu kerajaan-kerajaan lain yang agak mesra dengan mereka.
“Jadi tiada apa yang peliknya dengan permintaan saya dan baginda setuju menyokongnya dan kemudian kami terima surat dan kemudian wang dimasukkan pada masa yang sama baginda janji untuk menderma.
“Saya maklumkan kepada pihak berkuasa yang berkenaan. Bank Negara dimaklumkan bahawa dana itu akan masuk,” katanya kepada Malaysiakini dalam wawancara eksklusif minggu lalu.
Popular di kalangan rakyat Malaysia sebagai isu RM2.6 bilion susulan kadar tukaran asing ketika perkara itu menjadi bualan umum pada Julai 2015, sejumlah AS$681 didapati dimasukkan ke akaun peribadi Najib pada Mac dan April 2013.
Berdasarkan kadar tukaran asing kira-kira AS$1 kepada RM3.032 ketika wang itu dideposit, jumlah itu sepatutnya berjumlah RM2.063 bilion dalam mata wang tempatan.
Dilaporkan juga keseluruhan AS$620 juta kemudian dikembalikan kepada sumber sama pada Ogos 2013.
Susulan ringgit melemah selepas itu, kepada RM3.30 untuk sedolar AS, AS$620 juta itu bermaksud kebanyakan “derma” itu sudah dipulangkan.
Najib berkata DOJ juga mengesahkan AS$600 juta itu telah dikembalikan.
“Pakatan Harapan beritahu rakyat saya ambil ‘RM2.6 bilion’ tetapi mereka tidak pernah beritahu wang itu dikembalikan saya pada sumber yang sama. Ini tidak adil,” katanya.
“Jika tujuannya untuk mencuri, kenapa saya guna bank akaun tempatan atas nama sendiri?
“Saya guna wang itu untuk pilihan raya (GE13) dan lepas pilihan raya, (baki) wang itu dipulangkan. Setahu saya, itu satu perkara yang bertanggungjawab,” katanya.
Najib juga berkata beliau melihat penting mempunyai wang yang banyak bagi tujuan kecemasan selepas pilihan raya.
Katanya, apa saya boleh berlaku, termasuk berulangnya ancaman “916" dalam pilihan raya umum ke-12.
“Insiden 916” merujuk kepada tindakan pemimpin pembangkang pada 2008 Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yang berkata 30 orang anggota parlimen BN akan melompat parti, yang sekali gus akan menjatuhkan kerajaan BN dan menjadikan beliau perdana menteri.
Ditanya kenapa beliau memulangkan wang itu, Najib berkata beliau tidak selesa memegang “derma” yang banyak.
“Saya tidak selesa dengan wang sebegitu dalam sistem ini kerana saya tidak yakin integriti sistem itu, ia mungkin boleh bocor.
“Dan saya fikir dalam pilihan raya berikutnya, jika saya perlu (dana), saya boleh saja kembali (pada sumber),” katanya.
Beliau juga ditanya sama ada “penderma” sanggup tampil membersihkan namanya jika beliau dituduh di mahkamah.
Najib menjawab beliau mempunyai surat-menyurat dan dokumen berkaitan pergerakan dana itu “menteri luar Saudi secara terbuka tampil mengesahkan ia sebagai derma”.

Najib juga ketawa bila ditanya jika terdapat derma dalam akaun peribadinya untuk pilihan raya umum bulan lepas.
“Tidak, selepas semua yang terjadi... (ketawa)... jauhkanlah (dari derma ke akaun peribadi),” katanya.
